A Note to Myself

On one of my Facebook groups the question was presented to the group “Imagine a future version of you, 10 years from now, travels back in time to visit you today. They give you a hug, then give you a ZOX that makes you tear up, because the words on it are exactly what you've needed to hear for a while now. What are the words on the inside of that ZOX?”

Thinking about this I took this a step further. Not only could I come up with something now, it would apply if I could go back in time now and talk to my teenage self. Even talked to myself 10 years ago. This is what I would like to tell myself.

Trust your instincts. Your instincts are strong. You should not doubt yourself. You knew that in your heart before you ignored those feelings.

Feel the emotions that overcome you. It’s ok to cry. It’s ok to get mad. Let the tears stream down your face. Do not wipe them away in fear of embarrassment. Do not not wipe them away because it makes someone uncomfortable. Your feelings matter. Your tears and emotions matter.

Learn to trust. Trust your friends. Trust that they have you and stop pushing them away. Not all of them are there to hurt you. Let your guard down,  just a little bit. It’s ok if you get hurt. You’ll dust yourself off. You need to believe that you’ll have friends that will stay with you. Stop doubting them and let them in. Just trust them and trust their words.

Your pain will not last forever. Your pain will ease overtime. The deep pain and heartache you feel will dissolve like snow. You don’t need to hold on to the pain to protect yourself. That only burdens you from loving yourself and loving the world like you want too. You have a heart that is full of warmth. Don’t let it go cold because of the pain you endured.

Accept the compliments that are given to you. They are not said to please you. They are not said because they are trying to impress you. They are said out of sensarity. They mean those words. They mean it when they say you are resilient. They mean it when they say they are so proud of you. Look at how far you have come.  The path you are going you will make strides.

Your life is worth living. Your life is worth so much. It’s worth it to so many. Remember you are loved when the world is collapsing around you. The world feels like it now, it won’t last. Remember you are strong and you will get through this. You will get through life and stop self harming. I know shocker.

Love yourself. Love yourself like they love you. Love your skin inward and outward. Your scars do not define you. Your weight does not define you. Your heart defines you. The way you treat people defines you. Love the way your hair flows when it’s wet. Love how your jeans look in the winter when you slide them on. You are someone’s cup of tea. Remember loving yourself is where it starts.

Always remember to let your tears fall. Feel the emotions that deep in your soul. Hug yourself and trust your friends. Love yourself and remember you got this!
