Changes at Sam’s Club

There have been some recent articles about Sam’s popping up. Let me say, yes, those rumors you are hearing are indeed true. At least for the Sam’s I work for. Right now we have a way to scan your items as you walk through the exit. 90% of the time it does allow you to just walk through. Just like any technology it’s not always accurate.

Sam’s Club is going to be getting rid of all the cash registers but self checkout at some point. Which will in return leave you with self check out or being forced to use scan and go. As a person who is getting older I understand the frustration. You must have a smartphone to access the Sam’s app for scan and go. However there are some advantages to using it.

Using scan and go can make your checkout process go faster. As you put items in your cart you can scan your items. Watch your total as you shop. Sam’s has select products on sale for scan and go users. Downy beads may cost you $15 at the register but it can cost you $12 using scan and go. You can scan alcohol or anything that will need an age restriction. You’ll just have your ID to scan to verify your age.

What about Sam’s Club Plus Membership? Yes, it’s $110 a year. It can be a lot of money. Trust me, I know. There are many perks of having plus. One of my favorites is earning 2% cash back on in club purchases. Now that doesn’t sound like a lot. If you shop there a lot, it does add up. Did you also know, it counts while you get items from the cafe?  You can get 2% back on your cafe purchases.

As the month goes on getting plus does prorate. Each time you shop the plu membership goes down just a little bit as it gets closer to your renewal date. It’s a great way for you to try plus until renewal. Then cancel the plus before that time if you don’t want to keep it.

If you qualify for the Sam’s Mastercard. There is a great benefit of having it. You’ll earn 3% Sam’s cash on all of your purchases while using your Mastercard. If you match that with the plus membership, you now earn 5% Sam’s cash. Sam's cash doesn’t expire as long as you have the plus membership.

Having plus you can save over in our pharmacy and our optical departments. Along with other savings such as with curbside and online delivery. You get to shop two hours earlier than regular members. Who doesn’t want to do that?

Even though there are hard changes coming, there are still some good things to expect from Sam’s.
